This 1991 Toyota Hilux is 16+ years old, which moves it into project / collectible / hand-me-down territory. Pricing in this band has more to do with condition and rarity than age. Inspect for rust, frame integrity, and electrical wear — none of which the 1991 fuel-economy spec sheet will warn you about.

This listing is below the typical mileage band for a 1991 Toyota — most Hiluxs of this age show closer to 15-20k km/year. Low mileage is a price-supporting attribute but verify the odometer hasn't been rolled back (check service records and inspection-station logs in South Africa).

Pretoria, Gauteng is a smaller market — comparable Toyota Hilux listings are scarce, so this wagon can carry a small premium for buyers who can't find local alternatives. Be transparent about condition; buyers who travel for a listing typically expect what they see in the photos.

For this diesel Toyota Hilux, focus on DPF (diesel particulate filter) condition and any history of regen-cycle issues — short-trip diesels often clog DPFs early. Also check EGR cleanliness, turbocharger play, and injector codes via OBD-II. Diesel auxiliary equipment (glow plugs, fuel filter) wears on a schedule independent of the engine.

Insurance in South Africa is a private-carrier market. For a premium-tier Toyota Hilux in Gauteng, expect 4-8% of the market value per year for full coverage. The biggest cost-driver is the city — Pretoria rates can be meaningfully higher than rural Gauteng for the same Toyota.

Diesel fuel in South Africa typically runs near or just under gasoline. This Hilux's real advantage is fuel economy on long highway runs — for short-trip city use, a diesel's break-even versus a gasoline equivalent is many years out.

This is a private-seller listing. For a premium-tier purchase like this Toyota Hilux, the buyer usually pre-arranges financing with their own bank or credit union — get pre-approval before contacting the seller. The seller will typically wait for funds to clear before signing over the title.

In Gauteng, South Africa, you'll need the original title signed over by the seller, a bill of sale, a current emissions / safety inspection where required by Gauteng, a VIN-match verification, and proof of insurance to take possession. The state DMV or motor-vehicle agency processes the transfer; many do it the same day.

This is a private-seller listing — an individual selling their own Toyota Hilux, not a business. Treat it like any other person-to-person purchase: meet in a safe public location (a police-station parking lot is the gold standard), verify the seller's ID against the title before any money changes hands, and never wire funds before seeing the vehicle in person.

A 16+ year-old Toyota Hilux is past its depreciation trough — pricing from here is condition-driven, not age-driven. Documented examples of desirable trims can appreciate; rough examples stay flat or depreciate as parts availability tightens. Set the price by recent comparable sold prices, not by asking prices.

Op 'n premier lys, wissel onderhandeling kamer meer deur die verkoper se hou-tyd as deur koper druk. If the seller still owes a bank or finance company against this Toyota Hilux, the title has a lien recorded. Do NOT hand over funds before the lien is released. Standard practice in South Africa: buyer's bank pays the lender directly for the loan balance and pays the seller for the remainder, with the lender's release letter arriving alongside the new title. Verify the lien status through whatever public registry South Africa uses (DMV / DETRAN / Registro Civil / etc.) before agreeing to a purchase price.
