Frequently asked questions

This 2012 Mitsubishi ASX is 8-15 years old — value-priced daily-driver territory. Mechanical condition matters far more than cosmetics at this age. Ask for the most recent timing-belt/chain interval, suspension work, and any major repairs. A documented one-owner ASX in this range is a stronger buy than a higher-trim with unknown history.

This listing is below the typical mileage band for a 2012 Mitsubishi — most ASXs of this age show closer to 15-20k km/year. Low mileage is a price-supporting attribute but verify the odometer hasn't been rolled back (check service records and inspection-station logs in South Africa).

Johannesburg, Gauteng is a smaller market — comparable Mitsubishi ASX listings are scarce, so this suv can carry a small premium for buyers who can't find local alternatives. Be transparent about condition; buyers who travel for a listing typically expect what they see in the photos.

For an older Mitsubishi ASX like this one, prioritize: timing belt/chain interval (ask for the last replacement receipt), suspension bushings and shocks, brake-fluid condition, transmission service history, and rust on the rocker panels and subframe. A pre-purchase inspection at an independent shop pays for itself many times over at this age.

Insurance in South Africa is a private-carrier market. For a premium-tier Mitsubishi ASX in Gauteng, expect 4-8% of the market value per year for full coverage. The biggest cost-driver is the city — Johannesburg rates can be meaningfully higher than rural Gauteng for the same Mitsubishi.

Gasoline pricing in South Africa is moderate. For this ASX, expect monthly fuel cost to scale roughly with kilometers driven and the manufacturer-rated economy minus 10-15% for real-world conditions.

This is a private-seller listing. For a premium-tier purchase like this Mitsubishi ASX, the buyer usually pre-arranges financing with their own bank or credit union — get pre-approval before contacting the seller. The seller will typically wait for funds to clear before signing over the title.

In Gauteng, South Africa, you'll need the original title signed over by the seller, a bill of sale, a current emissions / safety inspection where required by Gauteng, a VIN-match verification, and proof of insurance to take possession. The state DMV or motor-vehicle agency processes the transfer; many do it the same day.

Low kilometers for a Mitsubishi ASX of this year preserves resale value meaningfully — buyers in South Africa actively search by mileage filter. Each thousand kilometers added to the odometer between now and a future sale shaves a small but measurable amount off the next asking price.
