This 1999 Mazda 323 is 16+ years old, which moves it into project / collectible / hand-me-down territory. Pricing in this band has more to do with condition and rarity than age. Inspect for rust, frame integrity, and electrical wear — none of which the 1999 fuel-economy spec sheet will warn you about.

This listing is below the typical mileage band for a 1999 Mazda — most 323s of this age show closer to 15-20k km/year. Low mileage is a price-supporting attribute but verify the odometer hasn't been rolled back (check service records and inspection-station logs in South Africa).

Benoni, Gauteng is a smaller market — comparable Mazda 323 listings are scarce, so this hatchback can carry a small premium for buyers who can't find local alternatives. Be transparent about condition; buyers who travel for a listing typically expect what they see in the photos.

For an older Mazda 323 like this one, prioritize: timing belt/chain interval (ask for the last replacement receipt), suspension bushings and shocks, brake-fluid condition, transmission service history, and rust on the rocker panels and subframe. A pre-purchase inspection at an independent shop pays for itself many times over at this age.

Insurance in South Africa is a private-carrier market. For a premium-tier Mazda 323 in Gauteng, expect 4-8% of the market value per year for full coverage. The biggest cost-driver is the city — Benoni rates can be meaningfully higher than rural Gauteng for the same Mazda.

Gasoline pricing in South Africa is moderate. For this 323, expect monthly fuel cost to scale roughly with kilometers driven and the manufacturer-rated economy minus 10-15% for real-world conditions.

This is a private-seller listing. For a premium-tier purchase like this Mazda 323, the buyer usually pre-arranges financing with their own bank or credit union — get pre-approval before contacting the seller. The seller will typically wait for funds to clear before signing over the title.

In Gauteng, South Africa, you'll need the original title signed over by the seller, a bill of sale, a current emissions / safety inspection where required by Gauteng, a VIN-match verification, and proof of insurance to take possession. The state DMV or motor-vehicle agency processes the transfer; many do it the same day.

This is a private-seller listing — an individual selling their own Mazda 323, not a business. Treat it like any other person-to-person purchase: meet in a safe public location (a police-station parking lot is the gold standard), verify the seller's ID against the title before any money changes hands, and never wire funds before seeing the vehicle in person.

A 16+ year-old Mazda 323 is past its depreciation trough — pricing from here is condition-driven, not age-driven. Documented examples of desirable trims can appreciate; rough examples stay flat or depreciate as parts availability tightens. Set the price by recent comparable sold prices, not by asking prices.

If the seller still owes a bank or finance company against this Mazda 323, the title has a lien recorded. Do NOT hand over funds before the lien is released. Standard practice in South Africa: buyer's bank pays the lender directly for the loan balance and pays the seller for the remainder, with the lender's release letter arriving alongside the new title. Verify the lien status through whatever public registry South Africa uses (DMV / DETRAN / Registro Civil / etc.) before agreeing to a purchase price.
