Frequently asked questions

This 2004 BMW 5 Series is 16+ years old, which moves it into project / collectible / hand-me-down territory. Pricing in this band has more to do with condition and rarity than age. Inspect for rust, frame integrity, and electrical wear — none of which the 2004 fuel-economy spec sheet will warn you about.

This listing is below the typical mileage band for a 2004 BMW — most 5 Seriess of this age show closer to 15-20k km/year. Low mileage is a price-supporting attribute but verify the odometer hasn't been rolled back (check service records and inspection-station logs in Italy).

Caserta, Caserta is a smaller market — comparable BMW 5 Series listings are scarce, so this convertible can carry a small premium for buyers who can't find local alternatives. Be transparent about condition; buyers who travel for a listing typically expect what they see in the photos.

For this diesel BMW 5 Series, focus on DPF (diesel particulate filter) condition and any history of regen-cycle issues — short-trip diesels often clog DPFs early. Also check EGR cleanliness, turbocharger play, and injector codes via OBD-II. Diesel auxiliary equipment (glow plugs, fuel filter) wears on a schedule independent of the engine.

Insurance in Italy is a private-carrier market. For a mid-tier BMW 5 Series in Caserta, expect 4-8% of the market value per year for full coverage. The biggest cost-driver is the city — Caserta rates can be meaningfully higher than rural Caserta for the same BMW.

Diesel fuel in Italy typically runs near or just under gasoline. This 5 Series's real advantage is fuel economy on long highway runs — for short-trip city use, a diesel's break-even versus a gasoline equivalent is many years out.

This is a private-seller listing. For a mid-tier purchase like this BMW 5 Series, the buyer usually pre-arranges financing with their own bank or credit union — get pre-approval before contacting the seller. The seller will typically wait for funds to clear before signing over the title.

A 16+ year-old BMW 5 Series is past its depreciation trough — pricing from here is condition-driven, not age-driven. Documented examples of desirable trims can appreciate; rough examples stay flat or depreciate as parts availability tightens. Set the price by recent comparable sold prices, not by asking prices.

On a mid-tier listing in a smaller market like Caserta, Caserta, sellers often hold firmer on price because comparable BMW 5 Seriess are scarce. Lead with your timing (ready-to-buy) and your willingness to handle transfer paperwork — a frictionless transaction is sometimes worth a few percent to the seller.

If the seller still owes a bank or finance company against this BMW 5 Series, the title has a lien recorded. Do NOT hand over funds before the lien is released. Standard practice in Italy: buyer's bank pays the lender directly for the loan balance and pays the seller for the remainder, with the lender's release letter arriving alongside the new title. Verify the lien status through whatever public registry Italy uses (DMV / DETRAN / Registro Civil / etc.) before agreeing to a purchase price.
