Toyota Corolla • 1988 • 90,000 km • € 1000 EUR

This 1988 Toyota Corolla is 16+ years old, which moves it into project / collectible / hand-me-down territory. Pricing in this band has more to do with condition and rarity than age. Inspect for rust, frame integrity, and electrical wear — none of which the 1988 fuel-economy spec sheet will warn you about.

This listing is below the typical mileage band for a 1988 Toyota — most Corollas of this age show closer to 15-20k km/year. Low mileage is a price-supporting attribute but verify the odometer hasn't been rolled back (check service records and inspection-station logs in Portugal).

Lisbon, Lisbon is a smaller market — comparable Toyota Corolla listings are scarce, so this sedan can carry a small premium for buyers who can't find local alternatives. Be transparent about condition; buyers who travel for a listing typically expect what they see in the photos.

For an older Toyota Corolla like this one, prioritize: timing belt/chain interval (ask for the last replacement receipt), suspension bushings and shocks, brake-fluid condition, transmission service history, and rust on the rocker panels and subframe. A pre-purchase inspection at an independent shop pays for itself many times over at this age.

Insurance in Portugal is a private-carrier market. For a entry-tier Toyota Corolla in Lisbon, expect 4-8% of the market value per year for full coverage. The biggest cost-driver is the city — Lisbon rates can be meaningfully higher than rural Lisbon for the same Toyota.

Gasoline pricing in Portugal is moderate. For this Corolla, expect monthly fuel cost to scale roughly with kilometers driven and the manufacturer-rated economy minus 10-15% for real-world conditions.

This is a private-seller listing. For a entry-tier Toyota Corolla, most private-sale buyers in Portugal pay cash or arrange a personal loan with their own bank — the private seller is not set up to handle financing paperwork on the buyer's behalf. Funds typically transfer by cashier's check or wire on handoff day.

In Lisbon, Portugal, you'll need the original title signed over by the seller, a bill of sale, a current emissions / safety inspection where required by Lisbon, a VIN-match verification, and proof of insurance to take possession. The state DMV or motor-vehicle agency processes the transfer; many do it the same day.

This is a private-seller listing — an individual selling their own Toyota Corolla, not a business. Treat it like any other person-to-person purchase: meet in a safe public location (a police-station parking lot is the gold standard), verify the seller's ID against the title before any money changes hands, and never wire funds before seeing the vehicle in person.

A 16+ year-old Toyota Corolla is past its depreciation trough — pricing from here is condition-driven, not age-driven. Documented examples of desirable trims can appreciate; rough examples stay flat or depreciate as parts availability tightens. Set the price by recent comparable sold prices, not by asking prices.

On an entry-tier listing, the seller's floor is usually within a few hundred dollars of asking. Lead with a fair offer — lowball offers on $500-3,000 listings get ignored or blocked. If the listing has been up more than 2-3 weeks, point that out and ask whether they'd take a quick-decision price.

If the seller still owes a bank or finance company against this Toyota Corolla, the title has a lien recorded. Do NOT hand over funds before the lien is released. Standard practice in Portugal: buyer's bank pays the lender directly for the loan balance and pays the seller for the remainder, with the lender's release letter arriving alongside the new title. Verify the lien status through whatever public registry Portugal uses (DMV / DETRAN / Registro Civil / etc.) before agreeing to a purchase price.
